The Kingdom of Kourion is a magical place, steeped in myths, magic, and history. It is over 5000 years old and was ruled over by the Persians, the Greeks, and the Romans. Handed down through time, until it was destroyed in the 4th century by five large earthquakes.

Kourion Ruins and Amphitheatre are situated over a large area. If you have the time, there is a lovely walk over the cliff tops from there to the Temple of Apollo. If not, you can keep jumping in the car and driving the short distance to each historical site.

Kourion has the most beautiful view of the beach, and if you get there early you can have the whole place to yourself. The ruins open at 8.30am, and at that time the areas is wonderfully peaceful. First thing in the morning, you can take your time. Reading all the information and taking photographs before the coaches full of tourists descend on the site.

Your next stop after the Amphitheatre should be the Stadium, then finish your historical adventure at the Temple of Apollo. The temple is magnificent, you can actually climb the ancient steps and stand in awe under the remains of the ancient columns, and remnants of the sanctuary roof.

If you are going to visit Kourion, be sure to do so early in the morning or later in the day, as there is not a lot of shade. Wear lots of sunscreen and also take a bottle of water, and maybe a small picnic.
